Abstract


Plummer-Vinson syndrome is characterized by iron deficiency anemia, esophageal web, dysphagia, glossitis and koilonychia. The etiologic factors of Plummer-Vinson syndrome are prolonged iron deficiency, hysteria, disturbances in esophageal innervation, autoimmune reactivity, infection, nutritional deficiency and so on. The management of Plummer-Vinson syndrome are iron, nutrition supplementation and symptomatic treatment.
This is a case of a 66 year old male patient who complained of tongue soreness, xerostomia, taste disturbance, dysphagia. The diagnosis was made as a Plummer-Vinson syndrome accompanied with oral candidiasis. After treatment of this patient with medication, gargling solution and low level laser therapy, we obtained favorable results.
